Mark Patterson is the Founder and Managing Director of the Calypso companies. Mr. Patterson has over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry throughout the Americas. During his 13 years with Maxus Energy Corporation and its predecessor company Diamond Shamrock, he occupied positions of increasing responsibility including US Offshore Exploration Manager, Exploration & Development Manager for North America, and General Manager for Maxus Bolivia, Inc. In the United States alone, Mr. Patterson and his exploration teams are credited with the discovery of more than 100 million barrels of oil and 500 billion cubic feet of natural gas worth more than $10 billion at the wellhead today.
 
Between 1993 and 2003, Mr. Patterson turned his attention towards the international energy sector, where he rose to become CEO of Compañía General de Combustibles (CGC), one of Latin America’s premier independent oil and gas companies with over $620 MM in upstream and midstream assets. Under his direction, CGC generated record earnings and increased its net worth by more than 70%. Since 1997, Mr. Patterson has participated in the successful completion of over $500 million in energy-related transactions and arranged financing for an additional $150 million.
 
Mr. Patterson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology from the University of California Santa Barbara and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Houston Baptist University. He is a member of the Council of Energy Advisors, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. Mr. Patterson has served as director for several energy companies including Transportadora de Gas del Norte (TGN) and GasAndes. He is a former director of the Interamerican Chamber of Commercce, the Bolivian Chamber of Hydrocarbons, the Argentine Venezuelan Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Argentine delegation to the 1998 World Energy Council. Mr. Patterson is currently Associate Trustee of the SEG Foundation.
 
In addition to his professional interests, Mr. Patterson is an active member of the community and Partner in Dallas Social Venture Partners (DSVP), a venture capital group that supports and mentors nonprofit organizations across North Texas promoting children’s welfare.
